The Semiconductor Business of Samsung Electronics, based in Giheung, Korea, consists of three major divisions : Memory, System LSI and Storage Systems. It has pioneered numerous advancements in chip technology that are now widely used in mobile, desktop and other digital consumer products.

Through a strategy of aggressive growth, Samsung has held market leadership positions in Memory since 1993, and in NAND Flash since 2003. In 2001, the company signaled a long commitment to logic and analog chip development with the expansion of its System LSI Division and the opening of its SoC Research Lab. In 2004, Samsung's Hard Disk Drive Division was combined with its Semiconductor Business.

Samsung 2Gb DDR3 chips are today’s highest-density production memory product and boast special low power technology, operating at 1.5V and 1.35V. Based on 50nm-class processes, the new 2Gb DDR3-based modules save over 40% of the power of 1Gb DDR3 modules. For the new generation of “green” servers, Samsung 2Gb DDR3 reduces electricity bills and cuts the total cost of ownership (TCO) by lowering system power consumption and decreasing the need for cooling, particularly in combination with Samsung SSD's.

Samsung’s 2Gb DDR3 chips are available in registered DIMMs of up to 16GB for servers, 4GB unbuffered DIMMs for workstations and desktops, and 4GB SODIMMs for laptops. Particularly for Nehalem / Tylersburg-based systems, our 8GB and 16GB server modules allow for large memory capacity while preserving the maximum bus speed of 1333Mbps.
